It's no wonder that transgender people were not revealing their trait to even their families or closest friends. But socially, it has been something that has been scorned or not talked about at best, and at worst, something where the "treatment" has at times been literal torture. It is now undeniably known to be something that happens naturally. Transgender people have always existed among us in our world. While it might sound authoritative to anyone who might not be familiar with transgender people, it actually reads more like a list of carefully worded arguments that leave out important information.
This book is described in the preface as a summary of a book that was banned from Amazon for describing the 2-6% of our population who are transgender as mentally ill simply because of that minority status.
However, until then, I recommend getting your hands on a copy of "When Harry Became Sally" wherever you can. Censorship is no substitute for reasoned discourse and I hope that Amazon and others will change their minds. I think all people who are serious about engaging with this issue have a responsibility to inform themselves of the strongest arguments both in favor and against modern gender theory, and I can think of no better place to start studying the traditional views of gender than Anderson's book. His positions are rooted in data and philosophy and challenge those who oppose them to expand their critiques beyond the tired political refrains and appeals to emotion that have come to supplement well-reasoned debate and discussion in our modern-day discourse.
Ryan Anderson's approach to this important but difficult social issue is as empathetic as it is emphatic. I must say they have made a tragic mistake. I did not read the summary, but the actual book that Amazon decided to no longer carry.
